A Noisettes Anecdote

Don't Upset The Rhythm

Having recently posted about Noisettes I thought I might share an experience I had with the song “Don’t Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go)”

Anyone who lives in the UK may know that this song first appeared in a particular car advertisement long before the single or the album it’s from were ever released. I didn’t really like the song at the time as it keep getting stuck in my head and I’d start singing it at all sorts of random and inopportune moments, so much so that when it came on television I’d make a point of changing channels so as to exorcise it from my conscience.

Still with random outbursts of singing, one day I set out on my scooter to run an errant… and this is where it all started. First I heard it blasting from a neighbour’s house and so I quickly mobilized, but it was too late for it was already in my head. Next thing I know I’m at a traffic light and a Honda Gullwing (a touring motorcycle that has on board speakers and is so large it requires a reverse gear) pulls up beside me with the same song blaring from said speaker. Then when I enter my convenience store I’m again smacked in the face when I find it being played in store too, if that wasn’t enough I spend my entire journey home singing “Go baby go baby go” only to be nearly knocked off my scooter by the car from the aforementioned advertisement.

I guess I must have upset the rhythm!

Nokia World '09

Noisettes

Time is short and feeling a little rough from a great night at the Nokia World ‘09 party last night.

I’ve been introduced to the weird and wonderful world of Finnish a cappella cover band Frok (probably about the furthest thing there is from Eurovision 2006 winners Lordi!) but the highlight of the evening was definitely Noisettes. They gave a fantastic performance to an unlikely audience of tech-heads and closed their set with a cracking cover of Marc Bolan & T-Rex’s Children Of The Revolution.

No way!
